NUNAVUT TRANSPORTATION STRATEGIES

LPS AVIA led development of a multi-modal land-sea-air transportation strategy for passengers and cargo in the new Territory of Nunavut. This was followed by an Air Service Implementation Study and other related planning. In 2006 LPS AVIA was again called upon to update the main Strategic Transportation Plan, supplemented by studies for locating a Deep Water Port in the Territory, in consultation with the Federal government. Over 500 consultations have been conducted with communities and stakeholders in recent years.

The objectives of the strategic planning assignments have been to improve access, reliability, service, equity and fare levels, and other challenges. The territory includes 26 communities with a population of 27,000 people distributed across 1,994,000 square km. of the Canadian arctic.
