IQALUIT AIRPORT MASTER PLAN

The Master Plan was created by LPS AVIA in response to new demands on Iqaluit’s Airport. Significant traffic increases have resulted in increased demand for infrastructure to support flights, security, air carriers, and aircraft. The Master Plan adopted a new air terminal planning criteria which reflected the latest changes in airport and airline operating practices, regulatory and security requirements, Canada Border Services requirements, modernized airline fleets, revenue generation opportunities and other emerging needs. It also considered the latest passenger demand levels and projected future growth, improved baggage handling facilities and reduced outdoor walking distances. A new fire hall and maintenance garage were built along with improvements to airport electrical systems and additional taxiways in the future. The main focus was making this airport more accessible.
